QUALITY CONTROL
As there is a growing demand for herbal pharmaceuticals, there is a need to assure their quality. To ensure the consistency, safety, and efficacy of their herbal products, we have to be performed quality control at every stage of the production line i.e. incoming raw materials, extractions, in-process control, finished products and keeping samples.
The experience of the Botanical Garden and the collaboration with UOC allow to use the most advanced analytical techniques for the quality control, equipped with HPLC, GC-MS, FT-IR.
Also, regular analyses such as Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), heavy metals, microorganisms are carried out by independent, accredited laboratories as part of quality assurance.
In addition to the legal regulations and international standards, specifications and procedures for products at food industry or nutraceuticals we have defining and monitoring our quality management system.
Our goal, the standardization of the starting plant material is essential, since it is the most important factor in manufacturing herbal products.

THE PLANTS AS PHYTOTHERAPEUTICAL AGENTS
Among the various components of plants there are some such as phenolic compounds, terpenes, alkaloids, betalaines, non-protein amino acids, amines, cyanogenic glucosides, thioglycosides, defensive proteins that have a beneficial effect on the plants themselves and at the same time equally beneficial to humans, having the ability to prevent, relieve or cure diseases.
These components are called secondary metabolites or natural products and they exhibit great spatial and temporal variability in the concentration produced on each plant.

Middle East for over 1,500 years, and was thus the precursor of all modern pharmacopoeias.
